Isco: Every Dive, A Step Forward

🌊✨ "You never know what’s possible until you get there. And to get there, you must commit yourself to the journey."

From a stress reliever to a lifelong pursuit, Isco found more than just peace in the depths—he found purpose. As he takes on the world stage, every dive is a testament to his dedication, every breath a step toward pushing his limits.

💙 What fuels his journey? What sacrifices has he made? And how does he turn the silence of the deep into strength? Let’s dive in.

Finding Peace in the Water

For Isco, freediving started as a way to relieve stress, find peace, and stay active. What began as a simple escape soon turned into a lifelong passion—one that continues to push his limits. Freediving was more than just a sport—it became his refuge. "It helped me move on from heartache," he shares, proving that the ocean heals in ways words cannot.

When not diving, Isco works as a Microsoft Dynamics Technical Consultant. His job challenges him intellectually, while his love for travel fuels his sense of adventure.

Freediving demands sacrifices—days off from work, savings meant for other goals, and even missed travel opportunities. Yet, for Isco, every dive is worth it.

Unexpected Compliments & Surprises

After a successful dive, someone once jokingly told him, “Ang sarap mo.” It was unexpected, yet oddly memorable. Every personal record is a surprise. "I always get amazed after breaking my own limits," Isco admits. Each new depth is proof of progress. "You never know what’s possible until you get there," he says. "And to get there, you must commit yourself to the journey."

Stepping onto the National Stage

Being invited to the National Team was a proud moment—but it also came with worries about the cost. Still, the honor fuels his dedication. Representing the Philippines pushes Isco to train harder. "I’m excited about what I can do on the world stage," he says. His preparation starts now. His performance isn’t just for himself—it’s for his family, friends, and the entire freediving community.

The Performance

Days before the competition, he reminds himself: "This is just another day of training." Seconds before diving, his words are simple: "You did this several times. This is just a repeat performance.". His routine goes something like:

  • 0-100m: Think nothing
  • 101-150m: Turn 150 no matter what
  • 151-175m: Think nothing
  • 176m: Body scan
  • 177-200m: Relax the tensions
  • 200m+: Let’s push a little more

Riding the Edge

Each dive is a test of willpower, a balance between control and surrender. As the time slows, his heartbeat fades into the rhythm of the water, thoughts dissolve into the silence. The body whispers its limits, but the mind pushes forward.

Breaking the turn, the journey back begins. The body reacts, but experience takes over. He trusts his training, his body, his breath. The end feels distant, yet every kick brings him closer. The mind remains steady, unwavering against the primal urge to rush.

Then, finally—air. The first breath is a rush of life, a wave of relief. He surfaces, greeted by the sky, by cheers, by a moment of triumph. It is in this fleeting instant that all the sacrifices, the pain, the doubts dissolve into pure fulfillment.

Legacy in the Making

To those who dream of taking the plunge, Isco offers a simple yet powerful message: "Set a goal, plan, and commit. Let’s make those goals a reality!"

He hopes his journey proves one thing: "I can do it. You can do it."
