We caught up with each member of the AIDA Philippines Freediving Team to get a glimpse into their minds during their busy training schedule. Despite their hectic routines, they generously spared us a few minutes to share their thoughts on the process. #Sanghinga #AIDAPhilippines

Hey Ken! Can you tell us about your preparation process for this competition?
K: Sure! I train 2 to 3 times a week and I also join mini competitions to get used to the feeling of being in actual competitions.
That's great to hear. How did you get into competitive freediving and freediving in general?
K: As I got into freediving, having the chance to be with International Competitive freedivers like Alexey Molchanov and Adam Stern, who was my Molchanovs Instructor trainer, inspired me to join the competitive side of freediving.
Fun Fact: Ken is a native of Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

That's really interesting. How does it feel to be a national athlete?
K: It's an honor and a privilege to be part of the team of Filipinos to join the World Championship for the first time.
What motivated you to join this competition and represent the Philippines?
K: Being part of a team of Filipinos to put our flag in the World stage is my biggest motivation.
Another Fun Fact: Ken is a former boxer and a current swimming instructor for 7 years as of this writing.

What's the biggest challenge you've faced so far in preparing for this competition?
K: The biggest challenge so far is on the financial side since we do not have the support of the government for this sport, and as athletes, we have to pay for all our expenses.
That must be tough. How do you balance the physical demands of freediving training with the need to avoid injury or burnout?
K: I have a training plan which I follow which allows me to have enough break and rest to avoid burnout. I also make it a point to enjoy the process as I train.

That's a great approach. Can you describe your teammates?
K: My teammates are the best in class freedivers who share the same passion as I do.

That's awesome. Regardless of the results, what would you like to have at the end of this event?
K: Regardless of the results, I'm grateful for the opportunity to represent our country and the overall experience.
Finally, what would you like to say to your current and future supporters?
K: I would like to express my sincerest gratitude for all the support we have been and will be receiving. As we represent the Philippines in Jeju, we will strive to give our best. Thank you all!
